Meta’s latest artificial intelligence (AI) service, Muse, has recorded a higher number of downloads compared to ChatGPT within the first 12 days of its launch, according to estimates from app analytics firm Apptopia.

The report from Apptopia, as cited by TechCrunch on Monday (21/9) local time, estimates that Muse was downloaded 1.8 million times via iPhone in the United Kingdom, United States, and Canada during its first 12 days. For comparison, ChatGPT recorded approximately 1.3 million iPhone downloads during the same launch period.

When counting downloads across all mobile devices and countries, Muse has recorded approximately 2.8 million installations globally within its first 12 days.

Muse has also shown rapid growth on the Apple App Store. After initially ranking second among top applications in the US App Store upon launch, Muse subsequently rose to the first position, overtaking ChatGPT.

Another app analytics company, Appfigures, previously estimated that Muse had reached one million downloads.

In addition to download numbers, Muse also boasts more daily active users opening and using the application compared to ChatGPT during its initial launch period. In the United States, Muse is estimated to have approximately 642,000 daily active users on mobile devices. This figure is higher than ChatGPT, which was estimated to have around 231,000 daily active users at the time.

Even when considering iPhone users alone, Muse remains ahead of ChatGPT. Muse is estimated to have approximately 359,000 daily active users on iPhone, whereas ChatGPT had 231,000 users during the same period.

Apptopia emphasised that these figures are third-party estimates and not data provided directly by Meta. Consequently, actual user and download numbers may vary.

Nevertheless, the initial growth of Muse suggests the application has the potential to become one of Meta’s most popular AI services. Meta is reportedly using cross-promotion strategies to boost Muse’s popularity by leveraging the Instagram and Facebook platforms.

Muse can be integrated with Facebook and Instagram. Furthermore, the service is available via WhatsApp, providing Meta with several platforms to introduce Muse to its user base. Apptopia noted that over 95 per cent of Muse users also use Facebook, while approximately 63 per cent are Instagram users.
