Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) predicts that a surge in Whoosh passengers will occur again on Saturday and Sunday, 28-29 March 2026, as the school holiday period ends and the work from anywhere (WFA) policy concludes.

“KCIC also projects an increase again on 28-29 March 2026, in line with the end of the Lebaran transportation period, the resumption of school activities, and the termination of the work from anywhere (WFA) policy,” said KCIC President Director Dwiyana Slamet Riyadi when contacted in Jakarta on Thursday.

He assessed that this surge is inseparable from policies of several companies starting work on 30 March-1 April, as well as the resumption of teaching and learning activities in schools.

This situation, he said, encourages the public to return to Jakarta after celebrating Lebaran in their hometowns.

KCIC also projects an additional surge in passengers ahead of the peak return flow, with ticket sales still open and high mobility of the public returning to their home cities after the long holiday.

Furthermore, Dwiyana stated that the increase in passenger numbers is also due to the growing interest of the public in using Whoosh as the main mode of transportation for intercity travel.

Even in the previous period, the number of passengers from Bandung to Halim was recorded as quite high.

“Passengers from Bandung to Halim once reached more than 24,000 people in one day on Tuesday (24/3),” said Dwiyana.

This figure increased compared to the same period in 2025, which was only 202,007 passengers.

Then, the temporary peak of Lebaran transportation in 2026 occurred on Tuesday (24/3) with a volume of 24,315 passengers in one day.

The Whoosh high-speed train is Indonesia’s and Southeast Asia’s first high-speed rail operating at speeds of up to 350 km/h, serving the Jakarta-Bandung route with four main stations: Halim, Karawang, Padalarang, and Tegalluar Summarecon.

KCIC is committed to providing safe, fast, and reliable transportation services for the public.
