Surge in LRT Sumsel Passengers: 15,000 Per Day During Eid 2026
JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI recorded 213,150 passengers on the LRT Sumatera Selatan during 13-26 March 2026, or throughout the Eid 2026 transport period. The Regional Division III Palembang Public Relations Manager, Aida Suryanti, stated that the number of LRT Sumatera Selatan passengers increased to an average of 15,225 per day. “This achievement is concrete proof of our commitment to improving service quality for the community,” she said in a written statement on Saturday (28/3/2026). Not only that, during that period, school holidays were also ongoing, encouraging public mobility for various purposes from family visits to tourism. Therefore, from 22-25 March, the company, together with the South Sumatra Light Rail Management Agency (BPKARSS), added the number of LRT Sumatera Selatan trips from 94 to 102 trips per day. According to her, the increase in trips was effective in accommodating the passenger surge, especially during the return flow and long holiday. Aida mentioned that the LRT Sumatera Selatan passenger surge also boosted residents’ economic activities, particularly in central Palembang. For example, near Ampera Station, which is close to the economic centre and public activities, such as Pasar 16 Ilir, Benteng Kuto Besak, and Masjid Agung Palembang. “Because the stations pass through public facilities, economic centres, and shopping areas. For instance, Ampera Station is near people’s economic shopping,” she added.
