Suran Mbah Demang Procession Tonight, Jalan Godean KM 5 to Be Closed
The traditional ceremony of the Suran Mbah Demang procession will be held in Banyuraden Village tonight. Information regarding road closures, traffic diversions, and visitor conduct has been announced via social media. The @satlantas_sleman Instagram account advised the public to avoid the Jalan Godean KM 5 stretch from the Patran intersection to the Ringroad Demakijo intersection starting at 8:00 PM WIB. “Approximately 1,500 Bregada Kaprajuritan and arts participants will join the procession, escorting two Gunungan and heirlooms belonging to Eyang Demang Cokrodikromo, from the Banyuraden Village Office to the Tabon House/Ki Demang Site in Modinan (Jalan Godean KM 5), on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, from 8:00 PM WIB until finished. Road users are advised to avoid the Jalan Godean KM 5 stretch from the Patran Intersection to the Ringroad Demakijo Intersection, or to seek alternative routes,” the announcement stated. The post also included several appeals from the committee regarding spectator conduct, including: keeping personal belongings, especially mobile phones and wallets, safe; maintaining cleanliness along the procession route and not littering; keeping children within reach and supervised; helping to maintain a conducive atmosphere during the traditional ceremony and procession; and noting that any criminal acts during the procession will be processed according to applicable regulations. The Suran Mbah Demang procession is a tradition to welcome the month of Suro. The procession will feature two gunungan composed of banana leaves, red chillies, long beans, carrots, red water apples, pumpkins, purple aubergines, and pineapples as the crown, along with a number of heirlooms belonging to Mbah Demang.
