Surakarta Police Arrest 55 Suspects in Narcotics Case, 1.2 kg of Methamphetamine Seized
Polresta Surakarta has arrested 55 narcotics suspects across 43 cases over the last five months, with seizures including 1.2 kilograms of methamphetamine, 83 psychotropic tablets, 14 ecstasy tablets, and three cannabis plants. The figures were announced by Wakapolresta Surakarta AKBP Sigit during a press briefing at the local police HQ on the evening of Wednesday, 20 May 2026. ‘There have been 43 narcotics cases involving 55 suspects, spread across 42 city police reports and one report from Polda,’ Sigit said. Of the 55 suspects, 10 are repeat offenders of narcotics crimes. Two notable cases were disclosed on Monday, 18 May 2026. In the first case, a suspect with initials Y was apprehended around 14:50 WIB in front of a public toilet at Matahari Singosaren Plaza. He was found in possession of 25 Alprazolam tablets: nine tablets branded Mersi Atarax Alprazolam, 15 tablets branded Mersi Alprazolam, and one tablet branded Opizolam Alprazolam. The suspect Y, involved in distribution, claimed involvement and was charged under Articles 62 and/or 60(5) of Law No. 5 of 1997 on Psychotropics. In the second notable case, a suspect with initials MLH was detained at the same location at 16:30 WIB. Upon search, 58 Alprazolam tablets were found; MLH is a drug user. The operation shows a straightforward modus operandi: placing drugs at a fixed location and sending a share location via WhatsApp to buyers to avoid face-to-face meetings. ‘We will continue to crack down on narcotics trafficking in Solo City, with the hope that the public will be more actively involved in reporting drug abuse or trafficking in their communities,’ concluded Ajun Komisaris Besar Sigit.
