Surabaya's electronic ID card recording reaches 99.68 per cent
The recording of electronic Identity Cards (e-KTP) in the city of Surabaya has reached 99.68 per cent, covering approximately 2.247 million people out of a total of 2,254,680 residents who are required to have one. The Head of the Surabaya Population and Civil Registration Agency (Disdukcapil), Irvan Wahyudrajad, stated on Friday that this achievement forms a strong foundation for Surabaya to accelerate the transformation of digital-based public services, while strengthening its position as one of the pioneering regions in administrative digitalisation in Indonesia. “Out of a total of approximately 3.3 million residents of Surabaya City, 2,254,680 are registered as e-KTP mandatory holders,” he said. He noted that the high achievement in e-KTP recording demonstrates the increasing public awareness of the importance of orderly and integrated population administration. According to Irvan, the success of e-KTP recording is a crucial asset in developing the Digital Population Identity (IKD) system. To date, IKD activation in Surabaya has reached approximately 32 per cent of the total population required to hold an e-KTP. IKD is part of the bureaucratic modernisation efforts being undertaken by the Surabaya City Government. Through this application, the public can not only access their e-KTP, but also various other population documents directly via their mobile phones. “IKD is part of the transformation towards digital government. People not only get easy access to population documents, but also become more adaptive to continuously developing digital services,” he said. The Surabaya City Government also ensures that data security is a top priority. IKD is equipped with biometric verification technology through facial recognition and an encryption system that protects population data from misuse.
