Surabaya students enthusiastic as Mayor opens 'Sekolah Rakyat' orientation
Hundreds of students at Sekolah Rakyat Terintegrasi (SRT) 2 in Surabaya enthusiastically began their school orientation period, attended by Mayor Eri Cahyadi. The school, located in the Bulak sub-district, currently accommodates 368 students, with 270 new enrolments across primary, junior high, and senior high levels. The remaining students transferred from a pilot programme run by Surabaya State University (UNESA).
Mayor Eri Cahyadi emphasised the importance of instilling character and Pancasila values in students, including mutual cooperation and respect. He conveyed President Prabowo Subianto’s vision that students at the school should develop a ‘fighter’s character’, fostering independence and high social awareness. The mayor stressed that leadership is meaningless without the ability to help others and create peace.
The mayor expressed gratitude to President Prabowo for establishing the school, noting it provides a crucial educational opportunity for children from disadvantaged backgrounds who might otherwise struggle to access schooling.
