Surabaya Spa Therapist Charged with Stealing Rp 1.2 Billion for Lavish Spending
The defendant, Nur Hasannah Prasetya, a spa therapist at Surabaya’s Spa Superior, has been charged with stealing Rp 1.2 billion from her colleague, Tonny Soegiono. Prosecutors stated the funds were used to enjoy luxury hotel facilities and purchase gold at various shopping centres in Surabaya.
Nur Hasannah is accused of gradually stealing Tonny’s money between August and September 2024. After transferring the victim’s funds to her own account, she allegedly used the money to fund her personal lifestyle.
Public Prosecutor Hasanudin Tandilolo revealed the defendant stayed multiple times at Surabaya’s Shangri-La Hotel in various room types. Additionally, Nur bought jewellery worth tens of millions of rupiah at several gold shops in Royal Plaza and BG Junction.
The indictment also states the defendant did not act alone; Nur is suspected of collaborating with an accomplice, Putriana Kusuma Wardani, who is currently a person of interest (DPO).
Prosecutors noted both the defendant and victim worked at Spa Superior on Jalan HR Muhammad Square Block D in Surabaya. Daily, the victim would leave her mobile phone with the defendant when using the restroom, which Nur allegedly exploited to take the victim’s ATM card stored inside the phone case.
“After successfully transferring the funds, the ATM card was returned to its original place so the victim did not become suspicious,” Hasanudin said while reading the indictment at Surabaya District Court.
