Surabaya Resident Returns Home Early to Jambi to Avoid Holiday Rush Congestion
Merak Port in Cilegon City, Banten, appeared quiet during the afternoon hours. Ahmad, a traveller from Surabaya, said he departed early to avoid congestion on the roads and at the port.
During detikcom’s observation at Merak Port on Sunday (15 March 2026) at 14.00 WIB, several vehicles were seen waiting their turn to cross to Lampung. Many lanes remained unoccupied by vehicles.
Ahmad said he left Surabaya around 23.00 WIB the previous evening and arrived at Merak at 13.00 WIB today.
“I want to meet with my family in Jambi; it has been a long time since I visited,” he said.
He deliberately set out early for the homecoming season. According to him, leaving early helped him avoid traffic congestion.
“To avoid traffic jams, so it’s quieter,” he remarked.
Banten Regional Police also monitored traffic flow at several checkpoints in the Cilegon area, including East Cilegon and West Cilegon checkpoints. As of 11.00 WIB, traffic heading to Merak was reported as busy but flowing smoothly.
“Based on field observations, traffic flow from Jakarta towards Merak Port area was busy but flowing smoothly. Meanwhile, vehicle flow in the opposite direction also remained smooth and under control,” said Banten Regional Police Public Relations Chief Kombes Maruli Ahiles Hutapea.
