Surabaya Resident Reports Police After Debt Collectors Seize Paid-Off Rp 1.3 Billion Lexus

Andy Pratomo has reported the matter to the police after debt collectors (DC) forcibly repossessed his Lexus RX350 worth Rp 1.3 billion, which he purchased outright in cash. Andy also intends to file a civil lawsuit against the financing company that employs the debt collectors.

“The act of forcibly attempting to seize a fully paid vehicle can certainly be categorised as the criminal offence of unpleasant conduct, as Article 448 of the new Criminal Code states that ‘force’ is the dominant element in that criminal offence,” said Andy’s legal representative, Ronald Talaway, as quoted by detikJatim on Saturday (25/4/2026).

The case has been officially reported to Polrestabes Surabaya with report number TBL/B/1416/XII/2025/SPKT. This resident of Mojoklanggru Wetan, Surabaya, considers the forcible seizure of a vehicle that was bought outright to fall under criminal jurisdiction.

In addition to reporting to the police, Andy’s side plans to bring the case to the Financial Services Authority (OJK). He views the arrogant actions of the debt collectors as having harmed his client.

“Regarding losses, both material and immaterial, our client will pursue a civil lawsuit, and not only that, to prevent similar incidents from occurring again, we will coordinate with OJK, the PASTI Task Force, and consumer protection institutions so that they can consider revoking the business licence for the sake of public safety,” he emphasised.

The case began on 4 November 2025 when several debt collectors visited Andy’s residence, claiming there were overdue instalments. Andy asserted that the vehicle was bought in cash in September 2025 in Jakarta and has complete valid documents.

The commotion was eventually taken to Polsek Mulyorejo. There, representatives from the leasing company arrived showing photocopies of documents and a fiduciary certificate, but in someone else’s name. Further irregularities emerged because the vehicle type in the leasing file was a Lexus RX250, whereas Andy’s car is an RX350 model.
