Surabaya Mayor Hunts Down Thugs Extorting Street Vendors at Taman Bungkul CFD
Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi is pursuing individuals suspected of extorting street vendors at the Car Free Day (CFD) event on Jalan Raya Darmo, Taman Bungkul. The mayor stated that he had visited the home of a woman suspected of collecting illegal fees, accompanied by police, but found the individual was no longer at the address. He emphasised that the city administration is working with the East Java Police’s Cyber Directorate and the Surabaya Police to locate the suspects and ensure the practice is stopped. Eri stressed that all trading spaces at the CFD are provided free of charge and that no payments should be made. He also called on vendors to take responsibility for cleaning their areas after trading, warning that failure to do so would result in their permits being revoked.
