Surabaya, East Java - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operations Region 8 Surabaya, East Java, recorded Wednesday as the peak of the Lebaran 2026 homecoming flow, with a projection of more than 50,000 passengers to be served. “KAI Daop 8 Surabaya projects 50,814 passengers will use train services today,” said Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 8 Surabaya, Mahendro Trang Bawono, in his statement in Surabaya, East Java, on Wednesday. He explained that this number consists of 28,391 departing passengers and 22,423 arriving passengers. “This figure still has the potential to increase as train departure and arrival schedules continue until late at night,” he said. He conveyed that the high passenger volume indicates increasing public trust in rail transport, especially during the Lebaran homecoming period. “Today we project as the peak homecoming flow in the Daop 8 Surabaya region, with more than 50,000 customers served,” he stated. He explained that the high number reflects the great enthusiasm of the public in using trains as a safe, comfortable, and punctual mode of transport to return to their hometowns. “KAI is committed to ensuring optimal service at all stations and during the journey,” said Mahendro. He explained that the three stations with the highest passenger volumes today are Surabaya Gubeng Station with 16,351 passengers, Surabaya Pasarturi Station with 15,888 passengers, and Malang Station with 7,343 passengers. “These three stations are the main hubs for customer movement in the Daop 8 region during the Lebaran transport period,” he said. Cumulatively, during the Lebaran 2026 period from 11 to 18 March 2026, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya has served a total of 284,308 customers. “This number consists of 184,838 departing passengers and 153,343 arriving passengers,” he said. Meanwhile, long-distance train ticket sales up to Wednesday have reached 402,510 tickets or about 72 percent of the total capacity of 561,528 seats. “This sales figure is an accumulation for the departure period from 11 March 2026 (H-10) to 1 April 2026 (H+10), and is estimated to continue increasing as Eid al-Fitr approaches,” he said. KAI Daop 8 Surabaya urges all customers to arrive early at the station and not cut it close to departure time to avoid the risk of missing the train. In addition, the public is advised to consider alternative travel dates if preferred schedules are nearly full, and to utilise connecting train services for flexibility in timing and routes. “Homecoming by train provides a more relaxed travel experience, free from traffic jams, and on time. We invite the public to utilise trains as a safe and comfortable homecoming travel solution, while also enjoying moments of togetherness during the journey. Plan your trip soon and take advantage of the remaining available tickets,” he said.
