Surabaya (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the Surabaya DPRD Bahtiyar Rifai supports Mayor Eri Cahyadi’s policy requiring sub-district heads, village heads, and regional apparatus organisations (OPD) to have direct public complaint hotlines. Bahtiyar stated in Surabaya on Sunday that the policy could accelerate public services while strengthening coordination between government levels at the village, sub-district, and OPD levels. “This is a good step. The Mayor of Surabaya has set an example by creating a public complaint channel. I think not only village and sub-district heads, but all OPDs should also have a hotline,” he said. According to him, the existence of a hotline will make it easier for residents to submit complaints and speed up the handling of various public service issues. He cited an example that reports regarding waste problems could be forwarded by the village office to the Environmental Agency (DLH) or relevant agencies for faster resolution. Bahtiyar also proposed that hotlines at the village, sub-district, and OPD levels be integrated with the Mayor of Surabaya’s hotline so that the regional head can monitor the response speed of the apparatus. “This hotline should ideally be connected to Mayor Eri Cahyadi so he can control which sub-district or village heads are responding quickly and which have not yet responded,” he said. He stressed that every public complaint needs to be followed up immediately, either by the village office or through coordination with the relevant OPD according to their authority.
