Surabaya Detention Centre Seizes 53 Prohibited Items During Joint Raid

This is part of an effort to strengthen security and order within the detention centre environment.

Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - The Surabaya Class I Detention Centre, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, discovered 53 items prohibited within the detention centre premises during a joint raid on the residential blocks.

“This is part of an effort to strengthen security and order within the detention centre environment,” said the Head of Surabaya Class I Detention Centre, Tristiantoro Adi Wibowo, in a statement in Surabaya on Friday.

The raid, which involved elements of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), and the National Narcotics Board (BNN), took place at the residential blocks of the Surabaya Class I Detention Centre on Thursday (17/9) starting at 19:30 WIB.

Tristiantoro, alongside security officers and law enforcement personnel, led the inspections across several residential cells and surrounding areas.

In addition to other items, officers discovered three cutters and knives, four cables and ropes, one improvised heating device, and one earphone.

All discovered items have been documented and will be dealt with in accordance with applicable regulations.

Tristiantoro stated that the involvement of the TNI, Police, and BNN is a vital component in strengthening supervision and detecting potential security threats at an early stage.

“Synergy with the TNI, Police, and BNN is an essential part of strengthening surveillance and early detection of various potential security disturbances. This activity will continue to be conducted in a measured manner and in accordance with applicable regulations,” he said.

Throughout the activity, the entire inspection process proceeded safely and in an orderly manner. The Surabaya Class I Detention Centre stated that supervision will continue to be strengthened through synergy with law enforcement agencies.

Such surveillance is conducted to prevent the entry and circulation of items that have the potential to disrupt security and order within the detention centre environment.
