Surabaya City Government Prepares Three Locations for Affordable Flats for Young Couples
Surabaya (ANTARA) - The Surabaya City Government is preparing three locations for the construction of simple ownership flats (Rusunami) intended for young couples at affordable prices with more modern facilities. Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi in Surabaya on Monday explained that the Rusunami development is being carried out in three strategic locations, namely Tambak Wedi, Rungkut, and Ngagel, for young couples, especially those who have just married, as a solution for decent housing amid limited land and high property prices in Surabaya. These flats are designed with a different concept compared to ordinary flats. If previously rusun were synonymous with one room, in this programme each unit will be equipped with two bedrooms,” he said. From the price perspective, he said, the Surabaya City Government is targeting these Rusunami to be more affordable than commercial apartments, with a range below Rp500 million. Even, some units are projected to be priced starting from Rp100 million to Rp200 million, depending on the type and location. “Currently, the price calculation is still being refined to suit the capabilities of the target community,” he said. The government, he said, wants to ensure that interventions do not stop at education, but continue to the next stage of life, including when the young generation starts working and building families. “We want graduates from low-income families who have pursued higher education to have opportunities to improve their standard of living, including owning their own homes,” he stated. To support affordability, the Surabaya City Government is also preparing a financing scheme that facilitates collaboration with banks, including regional banks. The offered scheme includes low interest rates of around 5 percent with a repayment tenor of up to 20 years, so it can be reached by minimum wage earners. “In its implementation, the City Government opens opportunities for collaboration with various parties, from SOEs, regional SOEs, to the central government. This programme also has the potential to be synergised with the national three million homes development programme,” he said.
