Surabaya City Government Launches "Medical Tourism" Programme
Surabaya (ANTARA) - The Surabaya City Government has launched the Medical Tourism programme as part of welcoming the 733rd Surabaya City Anniversary (HJKS), positioning Surabaya as the primary healthcare service destination for residents of eastern Indonesia and abroad. Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi, in Surabaya on Tuesday, stated that there are already eight hospitals in Surabaya holding Medical Tourism certificates from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenkes RI). “We are collaborating with travel agencies. So, patients from out of town or abroad simply choose a package, starting from pick-up at the airport with a special ambulance lane, the hospital process, to hotel accommodation for the family, all included in one travel package,” he said. He mentioned that the eight certified hospitals are RSUD Dr Soetomo, RSUD Dr Soewandhi, RS Unair, RS Husada Utama, RS Premier Surabaya, RS Siloam, RS Ubaya, and RS Katolik St. Vincentius a Paulo (RS RKZ), each offering flagship services such as heart treatment, special therapies, to women’s and children’s health. He stated that this strategy is implemented to convince Indonesian society that they no longer need to seek treatment abroad, as domestic services are capable of providing equivalent healthcare. “Plus with competent specialist doctors and comprehensive medical technology. I am optimistic that healthcare services or hospitals in Surabaya City are capable of handling treatments that patients have been seeking abroad,” he said. He targets 500 to 1,000 patient visits for treatment or medical check-ups in Surabaya City in the coming months.
