Surabaya (ANTARA) - The Surabaya City Government is adding 1,800 tongbin (waste bins) as an effort to prevent rubbish build-up at temporary waste collection points (TPS), especially on protocol roads. Acting Head of the Surabaya City Environmental Agency (DLH), M Fikser, in Surabaya on Wednesday, explained that the condition of tongbin at many TPS is currently damaged, affecting rubbish capacity. “So, there is a procurement of 1,800 tongbin, because many of the current tongbin are damaged and broken,” Fikser stated. According to him, this damage impacts the reduction in the number of tongbin at several TPS, becoming one of the factors triggering rubbish build-up at TPS. “TPS that previously had 20 (tongbin) have been reduced to 10 (tongbin), and on average, there is a reduction in tongbin at all TPS due to damage. The tongbin are planned to arrive at the end of this month,” he said. “We will fill all TPS with tongbin, on the orders of Mr Mayor (Eri Cahyadi) that once the tongbin are full, they are closed, and then the TPS is sprayed,” said the Assistant I for Government and Public Welfare of Surabaya City. In addition to strengthening facilities, the Surabaya DLH is also conducting a comprehensive evaluation of TPS, especially those on main road stretches. Fikser mentioned that there are 38 TPS on protocol roads that are a concern because they are prone to build-up. “There are 38 TPS in the middle of the road (protocol), on main roads. That becomes attention. Meaning, the solution is to add the number of collections (rubbish),” he said. As part of the evaluation, Fikser stated that the frequency of rubbish transportation at those TPS will also be increased, especially at locations with limited land.
