Supreme Court to Propose Dismissal of Judge Djuyamto and Others to President After Verdict Becomes Final

The Supreme Court (MA) will propose the dismissal of four judges found guilty of corruption and bribery linked to the acquittal of three corporations in a case concerning the export of crude palm oil (CPO) and its derivatives between January and April 2022. The proposal will be submitted to President Prabowo Subianto once the verdict has permanent legal force. The four judges are former South Jakarta District Court Chief M. Arif Nuryanta and the panel of judges from the Jakarta Corruption Court who handled the case: Djuyamto, Agam Syarief Baharuddin, and Ali Muhtarom. MA Spokesperson Yanto stated that the proposal for the judges’ dismissal would be made immediately after the case becomes legally binding. “Yes, once it is final, it will be proposed immediately,” Yanto said when contacted on Sunday. Once the dismissal proposal is submitted, the Supreme Court can only await follow-up action from the President. Yanto could not confirm the exact timing of the Presidential Decree regarding the termination of the judges’ positions. “Well, I cannot be sure. Sometimes it takes a month, sometimes two months, because that is another institution, we cannot control it,” he added. Previously, the Supreme Court rejected the cassation appeal filed by Djuyamto and the others in the bribery case concerning the acquittal of three corporations in the CPO and derivatives export case. Djuyamto will serve a 12-year prison sentence and a fine of Rp500 million, subsidiary to 140 days of confinement, along with restitution of Rp9,211,864,000, subsidiary to 5 years’ imprisonment. Agam Syarief Baharudin and Ali Muhtarom were each sentenced to 11 years in prison and a fine of Rp500 million, subsidiary to 140 days of confinement, plus restitution of Rp6,403,780,000, subsidiary to 4 years’ imprisonment. Meanwhile, former official M. Arif Nuryanta will serve a 14-year prison sentence and a fine of Rp500 million, subsidiary to 140 days of confinement, along with restitution of Rp14,734,276,000, subsidiary to 6 years’ imprisonment.
