The Supreme Court (MA) has granted an appeal in a lawsuit alleging unlawful conduct in relation to the high-school equivalency certificate held by Vice-President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

In its ruling, the court declared invalid the certificate that Gibran used to meet the eligibility requirements for his candidacy in the 2024 presidential election.

The decision was delivered on Friday (30 October) and was confirmed by the claimant, HM Subhan, under appeal case number 742 K/TUN/2026.

“I received a notification from the Supreme Court through my e-court account. It was dated 30 October 2026. In case number 742/K/TUN/2026, the appeal was granted,” Subhan said.

The Supreme Court has not yet uploaded the full text of the ruling to its official website. CNNIndonesia.com contacted the court’s spokesperson, Yanto, but he said he had not received any information about the decision.

“I don’t know yet; let me check first,” Yanto said.

In the case, Subhan filed three requests: that the lawsuit be granted in full; that Gibran’s education equivalency certificate be declared invalid; and that the document be withdrawn from its holder, the Director General of General and Special Education at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

The ruling was also announced on Instagram by the claimant’s associate, former Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Denny Indrayana.

“Mr Subhan’s appeal seeking cancellation of Gibran’s education equivalency certificate has been GRANTED,” Denny wrote on Friday.

Denny said the Supreme Court’s decision was consistent with a Constitutional Court ruling issued some time ago in a case concerning the educational requirements for Gibran’s candidacy.

“This means the Supreme Court is in line with the Constitutional Court’s ruling: Gibran truly does not meet the education requirements,” Denny wrote.

In its reasoning in the earlier case, the Constitutional Court said it had found no evidence of a document or high-school-equivalent diploma belonging to Gibran that was used to meet the requirements for his vice-presidential candidacy in the 2024 election.

Gibran had also previously been sued at the Jakarta State Administrative Court over the equivalency certificate issued by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and used to meet the vice-presidential candidacy requirements. That lawsuit was withdrawn on Thursday.

Gibran said he had been preparing to disclose the relevant information in court and had assembled all the necessary documents. However, the claimant, PT Mercy Toga Kirana, withdrew the case, which he said was disappointing.

“We had prepared all the documents for the evidentiary hearing, and we were ready to lay everything out. But what can you do? The claimant has backed out,” Gibran said after Friday prayers at Jami Ar-Ridho Mosque in West Jakarta on Friday, as quoted by Antara.
