Supreme Court reduces ex-West Lombok Regent's sentence to five years

Mataram (ANTARA) - The Supreme Court’s cassation panel has reduced the sentence of former West Lombok Regent Zaini Arony in a corruption case involving the operation and management of the Lombok City Center (LCC) from nine to five years in prison.

Mataram District Court spokesperson Kelik Trimargo confirmed the revised sentence on Tuesday, citing cassation ruling number 3707 K/PID.SUS/2026.

“The details have been published in the Mataram District Court’s Case Tracking System (SIPP),” he said.

The ruling relates to the prosecution’s subsidiary charge under Article 3 read in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 20 of 2001, amending Law No. 31 of 1999 on Eradication of Corruption Crimes, in conjunction with Article 55(1)(1) of the Criminal Code.

The cassation panel sentenced him to five years in prison with a fine of Rp200 million, or two months’ imprisonment in default of payment.

Previously, the West Nusa Tenggara High Court (Pengadilan Tinggi NTB) had accepted appeals from both the prosecution and the defendant, overturning the Mataram District Court’s original ruling dated 13 October 2025 (case number 24/Pid.Sus-TPK/2025/PN Mtr), which had imposed a six-year sentence and a fine of Rp400 million with four months’ imprisonment in default of payment.

The High Court increased the prison term to nine years but maintained the same fine and substitute imprisonment terms.

This ruling was higher than the initial trial verdict.
