The Supreme Court (MA) has increased the prison sentence and fine for former Director General of Budget at the Ministry of Finance, Isa Rachmatarwata, in the corruption case concerning the financial management and investment funds of PT Asuransi Jiwasraya for the period 2008-2018. Isa’s sentence was increased from 1.5 to 2 years in prison.

“Reject the appeal. Reject the cassation requests from both the Public Prosecutor and the Defendant, with amendments to a prison sentence of 2 years and a fine of Rp 200 million, subsidiary to 80 days’ imprisonment,” stated the Supreme Court Directory of Decisions, as seen on Thursday (2/7/2026).

The Supreme Court also increased the criminal fine Isa must pay from Rp 100 million to Rp 200 million. The cassation decision was handed down by a panel of judges on Thursday (25/6), presided over by Judge Yanto with members Ansori and Achmad Setyo Pudjoharsoyo.

Previously, the Jakarta High Court had issued an appeal decision on the case filed by both the Public Prosecutor and Isa Rachmatarwata. The High Court upheld the original sentence of 1.5 years in prison. The appeal decision was delivered on Wednesday (11/2) at the Jakarta High Court in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, by a panel led by Judge Budi Susilo with members Edi Hasmi and Bragung Iswanto.

The appeal ruling stated that the defendant Isa Rachmatarwata was legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption jointly, as charged in the subsidiary indictment. The High Court sentenced the defendant to 1 year and 6 months in prison and imposed a fine of Rp 100 million, with the provision that if the fine is not paid, the convicted person’s assets will be seized and auctioned by the prosecutor to pay the fine, and if insufficient, it will be replaced by 100 days’ imprisonment.

The appeal decision did not alter the prison sentence or fine from the original Jakarta Corruption Court ruling, only adjusting the subsidiary imprisonment for the fine from 3 months to 100 days.
