The panel of judges at the Supreme Court has officially granted a petition from members of the Gowa Regency Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), South Sulawesi, to dismiss Sitti Husniah Talenrang from her position as Regent of Gowa.

The Supreme Court’s ruling states that the judges granted the petition based on case information under Supreme Court Case Number 1P/UP/2026. The case was registered on 21 August and decided on 1 October.

“Verdict: Petition granted, declaring the object of the petition lawful,” read the verdict as stated on the official Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia case information website.

Legal counsel for the Gowa DPRD, Khairil Jalil, stated that following this decision, his party will proceed in accordance with Law Number 23 of 2024. “This decision is final; therefore, the DPRD will carry out the next legal stages according to the applicable authority and provisions,” Khairil told CNNIndonesia.com on Friday (2/10).

Separately, legal counsel for the Regent of Gowa, Adhi Bintang, confirmed that they have received a copy of the verdict. “Yes, but there are aspects we will expose regarding the process of this decision being granted,” said Adhi.

The call for the impeachment of Gowa Regent Sitti Husniah Talenrang was previously agreed upon by the Gowa DPRD. Dian Purnamasari, a member of the Gowa DPRD from the Gerindra Faction, stated that all factions within the Gowa DPRD approved the proposal for the Regent’s dismissal.

“The proposal was regarding dismissal; that was the first proposal,” said Dian following the determination of the results of the Gowa DPRD Special Committee’s investigation on Wednesday (12/8).

According to Dian, the decision was unanimously agreed upon by the seven factions within the Gowa DPRD. Furthermore, all members of the Gowa DPRD signed the approval for the impeachment proposal.

“Institutionally, we approve everything. All factions approve. The seven factions have agreed unanimously, all of them,” she stated. Dian noted that 45 members of the Gowa DPRD had signed the approval for the Regent’s dismissal. “All 45 of us, the DPRD members, signed the approval for the impeachment. From our party, Gerindra, we declared the impeachment of the Regent,” she asserted.

After the political decision was established in the Gowa DPRD, the leadership of the DPRD submitted the proposal to the Supreme Court for review and a decision in accordance with the applicable mechanism. “The mechanism involves the leadership submitting it to the Supreme Court to be reviewed and decided by the Court,” she explained.

She added that once the Supreme Court issues its verdict, the next process will be forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) to follow up on the decision.
