Supreme Court Accepts Apology and Correction from Judicial Commission
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chief of the Supreme Court’s Supervisory Chamber, Yanto, said the Court has accepted an apology and correction conveyed by the Chairman of the Judicial Commission regarding a press conference dated 30 July 2026.
The Supreme Court had originally scheduled a press conference for Monday at 13.30 WIB concerning notes and recommendations on reports of alleged violations of the Judges’ Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct (KEPPH), but the statement was not delivered after the Judicial Commission issued an apology and a correction.
“We can all stand here for what was originally my press release. However, due to certain circumstances, the press release was not delivered. Firstly, because the Judicial Commission commissioner has already issued a correction,” said Yanto at the press room of the Supreme Court building in Jakarta on Monday.
In addition, Supreme Court Deputy Chief Justice for Judicial Affairs Suharto was present at the Judicial Commission for the interview stage of the supreme justice candidate selection, and heard directly the apology and correction conveyed by Judicial Commission Chairman Abdul Chair Ramadhan.
“It happened that the Deputy Chief Justice was also at the Judicial Commission for the supreme justice candidate tests. He has just telephoned me to say that the KY Chairman has corrected the earlier press release delivered by a member. He has also apologised to the public and to members of IKAHI,” Yanto said.
Yanto, who also serves as General Chairman of the Central Board of the Indonesian Judges’ Association (IKAHI), said that on behalf of the Supreme Court and IKAHI he respected the correction and apology conveyed by the Judicial Commission.
“In response to that request, as General Chairman of IKAHI and as an Indonesian citizen, I certainly forgive what was stated in the press release issued several days ago,” he said.
Because of the correction and apology from the Judicial Commission, Yanto said, the press release that the Supreme Court was to deliver was no longer relevant.
“In essence, because it has been corrected, and the KY leadership has apologised, both to the leadership and to IKAHI, the press release is no longer relevant,” he explained.
“So, in short, because a correction has been made and there is an apology from the KY leadership, the press release is no longer necessary,” Yanto continued.
According to Abdul, the increase in the number of KEPPH violations was not an escalation of ethical sanctions against judges in the first semester from January to June 2026, but rather an improvement in the Judicial Commission’s supervision of judges’ conduct during the first semester of 2026. The reports processed had occurred before any increase in judges’ salaries or allowances.
“As Chairman of the Judicial Commission, I apologise to him (the Chief Justice) and to all judges in Indonesia for this matter, and I hope it does not happen again,” said Abdul.
