Pontianak Customs facilitated the importation process of goods transported by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) vessel JS Kunisaki at Kijing Terminal, West Kalimantan, on Thursday (10/09/2026). The JS Kunisaki carries three CH-47 Chinook helicopters along with various facilities, vehicles, and supporting equipment to be used in water bombing operations to assist in handling forest and land fires (Karhutla) in the West Kalimantan region.

The Head of the Extension and Information Services Section of Pontianak Customs, Abraham Tarigan, revealed that to support the smooth running of this mission, Customs played a role by providing customs facilities for the brought facilities and equipment.

“This facilitation is part of Customs’ service to support the smooth arrival process and the handling of operational mission requirements,” said Abraham.

In line with its service and supervision functions, Customs officers also conducted inspections of the goods, facilities, and equipment brought by the JS Kunisaki. The process was carried out in an orderly and coordinated manner with relevant parties while adhering to applicable customs regulations.

According to Abraham, synergy between various parties is a vital part of ensuring that supporting facilities and equipment can be immediately utilised for field operations. “Through customs services and facilitation, Pontianak Customs also supports the smooth running of this humanitarian mission in the efforts to handle forest fires in Kalimantan,” he concluded.
