Supporting the National Police, NasDem Legislator Calls for Thorough Investigation of Coal Corruption Case
A member of House of Representatives Commission III from the NasDem Faction, Rudianto Lallo, has expressed support for the National Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortas Tipikor) in investigating an alleged corruption case related to coal supply fulfilment. Rudianto stated that the legal process must be completed thoroughly. “The investigation must proceed in accordance with applicable legal provisions. Meanwhile, all parties must continue to uphold the principle of presumption of innocence while the legal process is ongoing,” Rudianto told reporters on Thursday (9/7/2026). Rudianto said that handling the case up to the seizure of evidence is a form of commitment by law enforcement. He hopes that the disclosure of the case will not stop merely at asset seizure. “The most important thing is that the legal process runs to completion, transparently, and accountably so that it can provide legal certainty while fulfilling the public’s sense of justice,” he said. Through this law enforcement, it is hoped that governance will be improved, especially within state-owned enterprises (BUMN). Moreover, electricity is a strategic sector for public services. “Law enforcement is not only to provide a deterrent effect but also to serve as a means to improve the governance system to be more transparent, accountable, and with integrity,” he stated. The police are currently carrying out a series of law enforcement actions related to several cases. One of them is a search of a cafe in Cipete related to several cases, including the alleged coal corruption that caused a blackout in the Sumatra region. Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Budhi Hermanto, said the search was conducted jointly with the Kortas Tipikor Polri. The case has received the attention of President Prabowo Subianto. “This is related to the alleged corruption in the PLN coal blackout, ASABRI, and Krakatau Steel. This is the President’s attention regarding alleged corruption cases that are of concern to the Police for disclosure and investigation,” said Budhi in Cipete, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (8/7). The Head of Kortas Tipikor Polri, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, mentioned that this case is being handled as a joint investigation with the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya. He said the cases relate to alleged corruption in coal procurement that triggered a blackout, the ASABRI case, and the debt settlement case from PT CBS to PT KNI, a subsidiary of the state-owned enterprise Krakatau Steel. “Currently, Kortas Polri is carrying out a joint investigation scheme with the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya in handling the corruption and money laundering case in the legal process for the PLN BB case, the ASABRI case from 2020 to 2025, and the alleged corruption case in the debt settlement process of PT CBS to PT KNI from 2020-2025,” he said. The Director of Special Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Victor Dean Mackintosh, then provided an explanation regarding the two objects of the case. He said the search was related to alleged corruption and money laundering in the legal handling process by state officials or public officials in the PT ASABRI and Jiwasraya cases.
