The South Tangerang City Government, through the Department of Communication and Informatics (Diskominfo), has declared its full support for the implementation of Government Regulation (PP) Number 17 of 2025. This regulation, commonly known as PP TUNAS (Government Regulation on the Governance of Electronic System Implementation for Child Protection), serves as a crucial legal framework to shield children from various online threats.

Through PP TUNAS, the state regulates electronic systems strictly to minimise digital risks for children, ranging from exposure to negative content, cyberbullying, and personal data exploitation to digital fraud and internet addiction. The Head of Diskom National South Tangerang, Tubagus Asep Nurdin, emphasised that protecting children in the digital realm cannot rely solely on written regulations. He asserted that enforcement must be supported by massive education and sustainable cross-sector collaboration.

“PP TUNAS is a significant milestone in strengthening child protection in the digital era. However, its successful implementation requires the involvement of all parties,” Asep stated in a written release on Tuesday (2/6/2026).

Asep claimed that the South Tangerang City Government had initiated various programmes aligned with the values of PP TUNAS long before the regulation was issued. These programmes focus on increasing digital literacy, information security, strengthening fact-checking culture, and active collaboration with school communities. One such initiative is the ‘Healthy and Safe Internet Digital Literacy’ programme, targeting primary, junior high, and senior high school students in South Tangerang, providing them with an understanding of personal data protection and social media ethics.

In addition to basic literacy, Diskominfo South Tangerang is developing the ‘Expert Goes To School’ programme. This initiative deploys experts to provide practical technology training for vocational high school (SMK) students, including coding classes, computer network management, and digital content creation. “The aim of this programme is to shape a younger generation that is not merely a consumer of technology, but is also capable of becoming creators and innovators in the digital field,” Asep added.

To combat the rise of disinformation that often targets children, Diskominfo South Tangerang has also established a strategic collaboration with the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN). This step is specifically intended to sharpen the critical thinking skills of the youth in filtering information. Despite the expansion of local government interventions, Asep reminded that the primary defence for children remains within the home, urging parents to actively supervise their children’s digital activities. “Our children currently live in two worlds simultaneously: the real world and the digital world. Therefore, protection must be present in both spaces. Our target is not just fast internet, but internet that is safe, healthy, and responsible for Indonesian children,” Asep concluded.
