Supporting National Industry, PLN Supplies 250 MVA of Electricity to IKPP Karawang
PT PLN (Persero) has once again demonstrated its role as a driver of the national economy by supplying high-voltage electricity with a capacity of 250 Megavolt Ampere (MVA) to PT Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper (IKPP) Karawang Mill in West Java. This electricity connection represents a strategic step in supporting the expansion of the national pulp and paper industry while strengthening Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global market. To facilitate this connection, PLN previously operated the 150 kilo Volt (kV) Telukjambe – KTT IKK (Indah Kiat Karawang) Overhead Transmission Line project through its Central Java Development Unit, with a route length of 8.481 kilometres circuit. With a power capacity of 250 MVA, the company operating in the pulp, paper, tissue, and carton packaging industry is projected to increase its production capacity for industrial brown and industrial white products. At the same time, it opens up potential for absorbing up to 2,500 workers, both directly and indirectly. PLN’s Director of Retail and Commerce, Adi Priyanto, emphasised that this electricity connection reflects PLN’s readiness as a state-owned electricity enterprise to support industrial productivity, strengthen national competitiveness on the global stage, and contribute to Indonesia’s economic growth. “With reliable, high-quality, and timely electricity supply, we are optimistic that the industry can operate more efficiently and competitively. The 250 MVA power connection for PT IKPP Karawang also serves as proof that PLN is ready to be a strategic partner for the business world,” Adi stated in a press release on Tuesday (14/4/2026). PLN Commissioner Jisman P Hutajulu added that the collaboration between PLN and the industrial sector plays an important role in driving sustainable economic growth. He also stressed that the increasing electricity needs of the industry represent both an opportunity and a responsibility for PLN to continue strengthening infrastructure and services. “The continuously increasing industrial electricity needs are an opportunity as well as a responsibility for PLN. We will continue to strengthen infrastructure and services so that investments in Indonesia can grow optimally,” Jisman revealed. Meanwhile, General Manager of PLN’s West Java Distribution Unit, Sugeng Widodo, assured that the electricity system in West Java is ready to serve customers with large power needs, including IKPP Karawang. This is PLN’s commitment to supporting sustainable industrial growth in the region. “PLN’s West Java Distribution Unit ensures the readiness of infrastructure and system reliability to serve customers with large power needs such as Indah Kiat Karawang. This is our commitment to supporting sustainable industrial growth in West Java,” Sugeng said. From the customer’s perspective, Mill Head of PT IKPP Karawang, Hendri Gunawan, appreciated PLN’s support in the electricity connection process. For him, this is an important milestone in strengthening the strategic collaboration between PLN and IKPP Karawang to enhance the national industry’s competitiveness in the global market. “This inauguration event is not just an operational ceremony but an important milestone in the strategic collaboration between PLN and IKPP Karawang to support sustainability and future industrial progress. We also express our highest appreciation and gratitude to PLN for the cooperation and dedication of the entire team, so that this project can be realised well,” Hendri stated. Moving forward, PLN will continue to provide increasingly fast, reliable electricity services oriented towards customer needs, in line with efforts to support national economic growth.
