Shopee has launched the Local Business Acceleration Voucher programme to boost sales of domestic products amid subdued consumer purchasing power. Through this programme, stores selling 100% local products will receive special vouchers worth Rp 500,000 per month, which can be used to attract buyers.

This initiative is a continuation of Shopee’s support for local businesses. From January to May 2026, the e-commerce platform has disbursed Rp 100 billion in store vouchers to help increase sales of local products.

Shopee’s Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Radynal Nataprawira, stated that consistent and relevant support is key to enabling local businesses to continue growing and remaining competitive amid the rapid growth of the digital economy.

“We see that promotional support in the form of vouchers has a real impact in helping to increase consumer buying interest and expand transaction opportunities,” Radynal told Kompas.com on Tuesday (12/5/2026).

Based on Shopee’s internal data, local sellers have recorded sales increases of up to 40% through the utilisation of store vouchers and special campaign vouchers for local products. On Local Shopping Day, held every 17th of the month, local micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) also enjoyed sales surges of more than double compared to normal periods.

Various studies show that incentives such as vouchers and discounts can boost shopping interest while encouraging consumers to complete previously delayed transactions.

According to industry studies, the redemption rate for digital vouchers in e-commerce ranges from 1 to 15%, with 7% considered a solid benchmark. This figure indicates that digital vouchers remain relevant in influencing consumer purchasing decisions.

Vincentius Leonardo, owner of the online store Trendy Spring Bed, has directly experienced the positive impact of the voucher and promotion programme on the marketplace.

According to him, vouchers and shipping subsidies can enhance product appeal amid increasingly tight e-commerce competition, especially for household product categories requiring large-volume deliveries like spring beds.

“We have already factored platform costs into our pricing structure from the start, just like distribution costs in any channel. The difference in the marketplace is that the platform also provides vouchers and promotions that directly attract buyer traffic,” said Vincentius.

Amid shifting consumer shopping behaviour towards the digital realm, the voucher programme is expected to serve as a solution that benefits both sellers and consumers.

In addition to helping increase transactions and store traffic, this initiative is also hoped to deliver a more engaging shopping experience while supporting the growth of local products on the e-commerce platform.
