The Governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi, stated that this appreciation serves as an incentive to strengthen corruption prevention efforts starting within the educational environment. “Early prevention for our children is extremely important; this is an effort to build integrity on a national scale,” he said in a written statement on Tuesday (6/10/2026).

He made these remarks while receiving an award during the launch of the 2026 Education Integrity Index at the KPK’s Gedung Juang today. In the implementation of the SBI programme, the strengthening of integrity targets four main elements: school principals, teachers, non-teaching staff, and students.

School principals are directed to strengthen transparency and accountability in governance, while teachers are tasked with integrating anti-corruption education into learning and-role modelling. “Students are taught not to cheat, to act honestly, and to conduct student council (OSIS) activities fairly without deception. Furthermore, teachers must also educate regarding integrity,” he explained.

Luthfi revealed that integrity practices are also encouraged in daily school activities. Examples include honest student council elections, digital testing systems, digital complaint channels, and the establishment of SBI Laboratories. “We must ensure there are no fees for entering school, no illegal levies, and so on. Therefore, early education is used as a preventive measure, ensuring that integrity in preventing corruption is prepared from our children’s youth,” he emphasised.

The SBI programme in Central Java began in 2023, involving 104 schools. By 2025, its implementation expanded to 645 schools. This year, the programme’s reinforcement continues through the formation of 12 SBI Laboratories within the Regional Education Office environments.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the KPK, Setyo Budiyanto, stated that Central Java’s Integrity-Based School programme is a best practice that is expected to spread to other regions. “By simply displaying the name ‘Integrity-Based School’, at least the aura of it has spread to everyone. The hope is that this spreads everywhere,” said Setyo.

He emphasised that eradicating corruption cannot rely solely on law enforcement. Prevention must be built through education and character building from an early age. According to him, education is not enough to merely produce intelligent individuals; honesty, commitment, consistency, and integrity must become part of a student’s character. “No matter how smart technology is, it will never be able to replace integrity,” he concluded.
