Supporting Indonesia Emas 2045, Sinar Mas Land Provides Digital Scholarships at Monash University
Sinar Mas Land, through Digital Hub BSD City, has allocated scholarships worth IDR 1.2 billion for prospective undergraduate students in Digital Business and Information Technology programmes at Monash University, Indonesia. This programme is part of an effort to support the development of national digital talent and address the high demand for digital workers in Indonesia.
According to 2025 data from the Ministry of Communication and Digital and the World Bank, Indonesia is expected to require approximately 3 million digital talents by 2030, equivalent to 600,000 new digital workers annually, to support the accelerated digital transformation across various strategic sectors. This situation makes the strengthening of human resources a key component of the vision for ‘Indonesia Emas 2045’.
In response to this need, Sinar Mas Land introduced the NextGen Undergraduate Scholarship Program through the national NextGen Digital Impact Competition held in June 2026. The competition invited the younger generation to analyse real-world issues in digital business and information technology, offering innovative research-based solutions. Following a rigorous selection process, eight finalists presented their findings to a jury of academics and industry practitioners.
From the selection results, Clara Sutanto was named the winner in the Digital Business category for her paper titled ‘Caring for the Forgotten Generation’, while Darlene Jovela Rachmat received an award in the Information Technology category for ‘The Digital Divide in Healthcare: How Accessible is AI in Rural Indonesia?’. Both recipients earned 100 per cent full scholarships for their undergraduate studies at Monash University, Indonesia.
Dr Yessy Arnold Perangin Angin, Vice President of Education at Monash University, Indonesia, expressed appreciation for the collaboration with Sinar Mas Land. She emphasised that the synergy between education and industry is vital for equipping the younger generation with critical thinking, problem-solving, and industry-relevant technological skills.
Irawan Harahap, CEO of Urban Solution & Development at Sinar Mas Land, stated that investing in education is a long-term investment for the nation’s future. He noted that through these scholarships, the company aims to expand access to high-quality education and equip youth with the international perspectives required to face industrial developments. He added that the initiative is expected to produce an innovative generation capable of contributing to Indonesia’s digital economic growth.
In 2026, Monash University, Indonesia officially launched undergraduate programmes in Digital Business, Information Technology, and Design, with the first lectures commencing on 27 July 2026. Monash University is ranked 31st globally according to the QS World University Rankings 2027. Its presence within the Special Economic Zone for Education, Technology, Health, and Innovation (KEK ETKI) in Banten further strengthens the Digital Hub BSD City ecosystem, integrating educational institutions, technology companies, startups, and research centres.
