Supporting Food Self-Sufficiency: Syngenta Launches Latest Fungicide
Syngenta Indonesia launched its latest fungicide, MIRAVIS Duo®, for rice crops in Cilacap Regency, Central Java, on Wednesday (4/6). This launch marks a significant milestone as Indonesia is recorded as the first country in the world to introduce ADEPIDYN™ technology specifically for rice cultivation.
The President Director of Syngenta Indonesia, Eryanto, stated that MIRAVIS Duo® was developed to address farmers’ needs for more effective plant disease control solutions amidst the challenges of climate change and increasingly unpredictable weather patterns.
“MIRAVIS Duo® for rice is a manifestation of Syngenta’s commitment to providing innovations that address real challenges in the field. We want to help farmers increase yields, accelerate the adoption of agricultural technology, and strengthen collaboration to achieve more productive and sustainable agriculture,” he said, as quoted from a press release received on Thursday (4/6).
The product, based on ADEPIDYN™ technology, is claimed to provide strong and consistent disease protection, keeping plants healthy and increasing potential yields. The technology also features rain resistance, providing protection for up to 14 days after application. He explained that MIRAVIS Duo® possesses three main advantages:
First, it produces healthy, shiny grain through plant protection that is rapidly absorbed and distributed evenly throughout the plant within six hours. Second, it keeps the flag leaves green and clean, supporting more optimal photosynthesis. Third, it increases productivity because plants are better protected from disease attacks.
The launch of MIRAVIS Duo® received support from the local government, as it is deemed aligned with efforts to increase agricultural productivity and strengthen rice cultivation. The Head of the Cilacap Agriculture Office, Sigit Widayanto, stated that plant protection innovation is becoming increasingly important amidst the rising risk of disease attacks due to changing weather patterns.
“We welcome the presence of technology that can help farmers manage crop disease risks. It is hoped that this technology will be used according to recommendations so that the productivity and quality of rice harvests in Cilacap can continue to increase,” said Sigit.
Cilacap was chosen as the launch location because it is one of the largest rice production centres in Indonesia. The region’s rice production is estimated to reach 855,042 tonnes of dried milled grain (GKG), with a rice surplus of more than 321,000 tonnes projected for 2025.
Approximately 500 farmers attended the product launch and participated in live demonstrations on pilot plots. Several farmers who had tested the product reported improvements in crop quality and yields.
“I used MIRAVIS Duo® when the plants were 55 days after planting with a dose of 300 ml per hectare. After application, the grain appeared healthier and shinier, the leaves were greener and cleaner, and the harvest increased compared to the previous season,” said Musodik, a rice farmer from Cilacap.
Following its introduction in Cilacap, Syngenta plans to expand the rollout of MIRAVIS Duo® to several other rice production centres across Indonesia. This move is expected to support the increase of national agricultural productivity while strengthening food security and the target for rice self-sufficiency.
