Supporting Food Self-Sufficiency, PTPN Group and PT KUAB Develop National Soybean Ecosystem
President’s Special Envoy of the Republic of Indonesia, Hashim S. Djojohadikusumo, has welcomed the synergy between Holding Perkebunan Nusantara PTPN III (Persero) and PT Karya Unggulan Anak Bangsa (KUAB) in supporting the development of the national soybean sector. The collaboration is regarded as a strategic step in building a foundation towards soybean self-sufficiency whilst optimising Indonesia’s agricultural land potential.
The synergy was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding concerning land utilisation and soybean cultivation development from upstream to downstream, with one of the main focuses being the establishment of a Soybean Seed Development Centre, which is expected to support the availability of quality seeds for national soybean development.
The signing was carried out by the Chief Executive Officer of PT KUAB, Prof. Ali Zum Mashar, and the Asset Director of PTPN III (Persero), Agung Setya Imam Efendi, witnessed by the Chief Executive Officer of PTPN III (Persero), Denaldy Mulino Mauna, as well as Hashim S. Djojohadikusumo.
“I think this is highly strategic for soybean food self-sufficiency. I would like to express my gratitude to PTPN. This is a very strategic partnership for the Indonesian nation,” said Hashim at the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between PTPN Group and PT KUAB in Jakarta on Friday (11/09/2026).
Hashim expressed hope that national soybean development could drive the achievement of self-sufficiency within approximately three to four years. He also sees significant opportunity to build a soybean seed ecosystem that can support cooperatives and farmers across various regions of Indonesia.
“Ideally, we could achieve soybean self-sufficiency perhaps within three to four years. And I believe our intention is to supply seeds to cooperatives or to many farmers throughout Indonesia, because there is a great deal of land in Indonesia that is highly suitable for soybeans,” he said.
The programme aligns with the Government’s strategic agenda through the Ministry of Agriculture to strengthen national food security and independence, including efforts towards soybean self-sufficiency initiated by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia, Andi Amran Sulaiman.
