Supporting Food Self-Sufficiency: Klaten Police Conduct Maize Grand Harvest
A simultaneous grand maize harvest for the second quarter of 2026 was held in the Perhutani lands of Batilan Hamlet, Krakitan Village, Bayat District, Klaten Regency, Central Java. The harvest on a 0.5-hectare plot, conducted by the Klaten Police on Saturday (16/5), serves as part of the support for the national food self-sufficiency programme.
The harvest was led by the Klaten Police Chief, AKB Moh Faruk Rozi, and attended by the Head of the Klaten Food Security and Agriculture Office (DKPP), Iwan Kurniawan, representatives from Bulog, and local farmer groups. In addition to the harvest and the subsequent distribution of the maize yield to Bulog, the event included the provision of social assistance to local residents and free healthcare services.
Police Chief Faruk Rozi stated that the involvement of the National Police in the food sector is a form of support for the government’s programme to maintain national food security. “This simultaneous maize harvest is a form of the National Police’s support for the national food self-sufficiency programme, in accordance with the directives of the President of the Republic of Indonesia,” he explained.
He added that synergy between the police, local government, farmer groups, and relevant stakeholders is a vital component in maintaining the continuity of food production in the region. The harvest of the Raja Nusantara maize variety from the 0.5-hectare plot was purchased directly by Bulog to support national food stability. The land is managed by local farmers.
“We hope this collaboration can continue, so that food security in Klaten Regency remains maintained and the agricultural yields of the community can further increase,” said Faruk Rozi.
The maize harvest in Klaten is part of the national agenda for the Q2 2026 Simultaneous Maize Grand Harvest, which is centred in Tuban Regency, East Java, and attended by the President of Indonesia and the Chief of the National Police. The nationwide maize harvest involves 36 Regional Police Departments (Polda), covering approximately 189,000 hectares of farmland. The total maize yield from lands under the guidance of the National Police for the Q2 2026 period is estimated at around 1.23 million tonnes.
President Prabowo Subianto led the maize harvest in Tuban, where he also inaugurated 10 food warehouses and 166 National Police Food Supply Points (SPPG) to strengthen national food security.
