Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has implemented a work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN) for one day out of five working days to support energy-saving measures amid the Middle East conflict.

“Working hours at Kemendikdasmen certainly follow the policy directive, namely one day of WFH, so those working in the office are only four days, and then on Fridays, everyone works from home,” said Minister of Education Mu’ti after the Women’s Empowerment Month through Education event at the Language Agency Office, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday.

He emphasised that the WFH policy differs from Work From Anywhere (WFA) because every ASN must be at and work from their respective homes, ensuring they remain ready if they suddenly need to attend office activities.

“If working from anywhere, they could be anywhere, so if we need their presence in the office at some point, it might be difficult because we wouldn’t know where they are. But if working from home, they are at home. When we need them for a meeting or an urgent unscheduled agenda, they can still come in,” he said.

For Kemendikdasmen’s public-facing services, such as the Integrated Service Unit (ULT), the ministry will continue to implement scheduled work-from-office (WFO) policies to accommodate complaints or aspirations from the public that are not submitted through online channels.

“There will still be staff at the office; services that cannot be left unattended are exempted, for example, the ULT Integrated Service Unit, as not all public complaints or aspirations are submitted online. Learning activities remain five days and are conducted as usual,” he stated.

Previously, on Tuesday (31/3), the government officially implemented the work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN) every Friday.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said the policy will take effect from 1 April 2026 and will be evaluated after two months of implementation.

“The implementation of work from home for ASN in central and regional agencies, for one working day per week, namely every Friday, is regulated through a circular letter (SE) from the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform and an SE from the Minister of Home Affairs,” Airlangga said during a virtual press conference.
