Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pelindo Sinergi Lokaseva (SPSL) continues to strengthen its role in developing integrated zones connected to ports. On the northern side of Sumatra island, SPSL is constructing the Kuala Tanjung Industrial Zone (KIKT) in Batubara Regency, North Sumatra, which is directly linked to Kuala Tanjung Port. This step is part of the company’s strategy to build a port-led industrial infrastructure ecosystem that is integrated, efficient, and sustainable to create added value for all stakeholders.

The Kuala Tanjung Industrial Zone (KIKT) is a National Strategic Project (PSN) located along the strategic Malacca Strait, one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes. KIKT offers various strategic advantages, including connectivity to the Medan–Kuala Tanjung Toll Road access, proximity to the Sei Mangke Special Economic Zone (KEK), aluminium processing industry, and being in the hinterland of extensive palm oil plantations. This position makes KIKT have great potential as a port-based industrial zone supporting downstream industry development and international trade.

Senior Vice President of Corporate Secretariat at PT Pelindo Sinergi Lokaseva, Dewi Fitriyani, stated that the development of KIKT is part of the company’s commitment to supporting the government’s strategic agenda on Indonesia’s Economic Transformation through downstreaming of natural resources, massive productivity improvements, an economy integrated with global and domestic supply chains, and robust exports.

“In line with the government’s policy direction for 2026 in strengthening downstreaming and competitiveness, integrating industrial zones with ports is expected to enhance supply chain efficiency, strengthen national industrial connectivity, and increase investment attractiveness in North Sumatra,” said Dewi.

Port-Based Industrial Zone Development

In its development, KIKT is managed through a subsidiary of PT Pelindo Sinergi Lokaseva, namely PT Prima Pengembangan Kawasan (PPK), which continues to drive the construction of basic zone infrastructure as the initial development stage. To date, the construction of the zone gate and access road has been completed as the main access to the industrial development area.

The construction of this basic infrastructure is an important step in supporting the zone’s readiness for subsequent phased developments. In the future, various other supporting infrastructures will also be continuously developed to prepare a modern, integrated, and competitive industrial zone.

In addition to physical zone development, PT PPK is also strengthening governance aspects and legal certainty of company assets. At the beginning of 2026, PT PPK received 31 land certificates for Stage I Parts A and B, resulting from legal assistance with the Batubara District Prosecutor’s Office. This step is part of the company’s commitment to strengthening asset security and supporting the implementation of Good Corporate Governance (GCG) through cross-institutional synergy.

KIKT development efforts are also continuously strengthened through strategic coordination among Pelindo Group entities. In the Progress Meeting on the Priority Programme for Kuala Tanjung Ecosystem Development held by PT Pelabuhan Indonesia with subsidiaries and strategic partners in April 2026, various steps to accelerate industrial zone development and strengthen Kuala Tanjung Port connectivity as a strategic international trade hub were discussed.

The development of the Kuala Tanjung Industrial Zone is directed to become a port-based industrial zone (port-led industrial/logistic infrastructure) directly connected to international trade routes. This integration of the zone and port is expected to support the government’s agenda in strengthening the national economy.

Through the development of KIKT, PT Pelindo Sinergi Lokaseva is committed to supporting the development of integrated industrial zones that can create added value for national economic growth while strengthening Indonesia’s position in regional and global trade chains.
