Supporting Disability Accessibility, UNM Disseminates DISABI Innovation to PT KAI
The DISABI team from Universitas Nusa Mandiri (UNM), a Digital Business campus, held a dissemination of the DISABI Smart Accessibility concept to PT KAI DAOP 1 Jakarta on Monday (27/8). During the event, the student team presented their research, solution concepts, and digital innovation prototypes designed to support accessibility for persons with disabilities in public transportation.
The DISABI system integrates a disability-friendly application with automatic platform extender technology to minimise the gap between the platform and the train doors. This initiative is intended to provide a safer and more independent travel experience, particularly for wheelchair users.
Keysha Meyuna, spokesperson for the DISABI team, stated that this dissemination serves as an important medium to align student innovation with operational needs in the field.
“We want to introduce DISABI as a solution born from observations of accessibility issues. The positive response and feedback from PT KAI serve as motivation for us to refine this idea to make it more realistic,” said Keysha.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Digital Business Study Programme at UNM, Lia Mazia, expressed appreciation for the students’ courage in bringing academic ideas to an industrial forum.
“What the DISABI team has achieved shows that students do not only learn to generate ideas in the classroom, but also dare to bring those ideas forward to gain direct perspectives from the field. This dissemination is a vital experience in honing business communication skills and user-based innovation,” she said in a release received on Friday (25/9).
On the same occasion, the supervising lecturer, Johan Hendri Prasetyo, added the importance of following up on PT KAI’s feedback to strengthen the technical aspects of the prototype. Through this dissemination, Universitas Nusa Mandiri is committed to supporting the development of student social innovations to realise more inclusive public transport services.
“Through this dissemination, UNM is committed to supporting the sustainable development of student social innovation. The evaluation from PT KAI DAOP 1 Jakarta is expected to mature the DISABI concept towards the realisation of public transport services that are increasingly inclusive for all members of society,” he stated.
