Jakarta, Kompas.com – DPR Commission II member Eka Widodo supports the Constitutional Court’s ruling that political parties can be barred from elections in certain regions if they fail to meet the 30% female candidate quota.

The National Awakening Party (PKB) politician stated that his party does not merely place female cadres to meet administrative requirements but also prepares capable female candidates.

“We prepare the best female cadres. They are not just quota fillers but genuinely fight to win public votes and strengthen women’s representation in parliament,” Eka said in a statement on Tuesday (26 May 2026).

“PKB has always met the 30% female candidate requirement in every election,” he added.

Eka noted that the court ruling will be a key point in upcoming discussions on revising the Election Law.

The ruling will be incorporated into the draft Election Bill.

“The Constitutional Court’s decision will undoubtedly be part of the upcoming Election Law amendment. The PKB faction is ready to discuss the amendment,” he said.

“The amendment must remain a DPR-initiated bill to ensure optimal discussion processes for strengthening our democracy and electoral system,” he stressed.
