Supporting Coastal Economy, Riau Police Chief Hands Over 20 Outboard Engines to Meranti Fishermen
Riau Police Chief, Irjen Pol Herry Heryawan, has shown real concern for the welfare of coastal communities in the Kepulauan Meranti. During his working visit, the two-star general handed over aid in the form of 20 units of outboard engines to fishermen in Desa Bokor, Rangsang Barat Subdistrict.
The event, centred at the Tantya Sudhirajati Hall of the Kepulauan Meranti Police Resort on Monday (31/3/2026), was attended by senior officials from Polda Riau, Deputy Regent of Kepulauan Meranti Muzammil Baharuddin, Kepulauan Meranti Police Chief AKBP Aldi Alfa Faroqi, and local Forkopimda representatives.
In his speech, the Riau Police Chief emphasised that the role of Polri today is not limited to law enforcement and maintaining security, but must also be present as a servant and protector that directly contributes to improving the living standards of the community.
“Coastal communities have great potential but often face limitations in facilities. This outboard engine aid is expected to drive fishermen’s productivity and strengthen family economic resilience,” said Irjen Herry Heryawan.
He also stressed the importance of the spirit of human solidarity or gotong royong between Polri, local government, and the community in efforts to build the nation.
“We cannot work alone. Through synergy, we can open broader economic and educational access for the outermost communities,” he added.
Appreciation from Fishermen
A total of 20 fishermen from Desa Bokor received the outboard engine aid. Rangsang Barat Subdistrict Head, Jefri, expressed deep appreciation for the assistance.
“This aid has been eagerly awaited. For our fishermen, outboard engines are the lifeline of economic activities. We hope the recipients can maintain and care for this aid so that its benefits are felt in the long term,” said Jefri.
In addition to handing over the engines, the Riau Police Chief and his entourage also carried out an environmental action by symbolically planting honey guava and mango seedlings in the Mapolres area. This step symbolises Polri’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development in the Kepulauan Meranti region.
This visit is considered strategic in strengthening public trust in the Polri institution in border areas. The entire series of activities proceeded solemnly, safely, and conducive, reflecting solid synergy between the police and the district government as well as local community figures.
