Supporting AI Sovereignty: Mining Industry Transformation Continues to Be Driven Forward
Jakarta: Continuing its commitment to supporting artificial intelligence (AI) sovereignty since Indonesia Day held in November 2024, Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (Indosat or IOH) hosted the Indonesia AI Day for Mining Industry. The event served as a platform to drive the adoption of artificial intelligence technology in Indonesia's mining sector.
Carrying the theme 'Navigating the Future of Indonesia's Mining Industry', the event provided momentum for cross-sectoral stakeholders in the mining industry to explore the utilisation of AI and Internet of Things (IoT).
The aim is to accelerate industry digitalisation whilst improving efficiency, sustainability, safety and work security, which can boost Indonesia's competitiveness on the global stage.
"This initiative demonstrates the real contribution of the business world in supporting national industrial transformation through cutting-edge technology. With the adoption of AI, Indonesia's mining sector can become more competitive, sustainable and economically inclusive," said Investment and Downstreaming Minister/BKPM Head Rosan Roeslani in a written statement on Thursday, 24 April 2025.
The event also served as a collaborative forum bringing together industry leaders, policymakers and technology innovators to jointly formulate a comprehensive digital transformation strategy. Discussions focused on how technology can serve as a catalyst for sustainable growth, strengthen industrial resilience and increase the mining sector's contribution to the national economy.
President Director and Chief Executive Officer of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison Vikram Sinha said that as a company transforming into an AI TechCo, it believes the future of Indonesia's mining industry will be largely determined by technology utilisation.
"Through Indonesia AI Day for Mining Industry, we want to build an intelligent, safe and sustainable ecosystem, and ensure this digital transformation has a direct impact on equitable and inclusive economic growth," he said.
Through this initiative, Indosat is inviting all stakeholders to strengthen synergies in building a resilient digital mining ecosystem. Cross-sector collaboration, adoption of advanced technology and development of digital talent are expected to create a smarter, more inclusive and highly competitive industry future on the global stage.
