Supporting a Greener and More Inclusive Jakarta: Astra Encourages Employees to Use Public Transport
The programme represents a form of Astra’s participation in realising Jakarta as a greener, more sustainable, and inclusive global city. The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, expressed his appreciation for Astra’s contribution to supporting the use of public transport in the capital.
“Today, the Jakarta Provincial Government feels grateful and has received extraordinary support from Astra. This serves as a significant boost for Jakarta in managing its public transportation,” stated Pramono during the Kick-Off Ceremony of the ‘Insan Astra Ayo Naik Transum Jakarta’ campaign at Menara Astra on Friday (5/6/2026).
With a workforce exceeding 180,000, Pramono is optimistic that this campaign will have a substantial impact. He hopes this step will serve as an example for other corporations. “If even half of them in Jakarta truly use public transport, I am certain the impact will be significant. Astra is a legendary and credible company; what they do will undoubtedly influence other companies, and I hope others will follow suit,” he added.
To realise a greener and more inclusive Jakarta, Rudy, the President Director of PT Astra International Tbk, revealed that the ‘Insan Astra Ayo Naik Transum Jakarta’ programme is an initiative aimed at Astra employees to foster a culture of using public transport.
“This campaign is part of Astra’s support for the Jakarta Provincial Government’s vision to build Jakarta as a greener, more inclusive, and sustainable global city. As a company that has been in Jakarta for seven decades, Astra is inviting its employees in Jakarta to use public transport for their daily commutes,” said Rudy.
In the initial phase, Astra will involve over 900 employees based in Jakarta. Employees can utilise various modes of public transport for their commutes, supported by a cashback programme through the AstraPay application, which is integrated with public transport services such as Transjakarta and MRT Jakarta.
“For the first stage, we will start with employees at the head office in Menara Astra, the AMDI Building, and our previous headquarters in Sunter, North Jakarta. We will commence this programme in June,” he said. Management is also supporting the initiative by providing cashback vouchers for the MRT and Transjakarta via AstraPay. The company hopes this can inspire behavioural changes regarding daily commuting.
Beyond transport, Astra has demonstrated support for the economy and sustainability. In 2022, Astra launched its ‘2030 Sustainability Aspirations’, which includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing renewable energy use, and enhancing waste recycling. Through the ‘Desa Sejahtera Astra’ (Prosperous Astra Villages) programme, the company focuses on health, education, environment, and entrepreneurship, having reached over 1,500 villages across 35 provinces and supporting export values of up to Rp411 billion.
In Jakarta specifically, Astra’s community development includes the Thousand Islands, supporting Climate Village programmes in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Environment, tree planting, waste bank management, and the development of public spaces and urban revitalisation.
