Supporting 6% Economic Growth Target, Eddy Soeparno Urges Sustainable Development
Deputy Speaker of the MPR from the National Mandate Party (PAN) faction, Eddy Soeparno, believes the 6% economic growth target for 2027 announced by President Prabowo Subianto in his speech on the 2027 State Budget Draft (RAPBN) must go hand in hand with sustainable development.
In his view, economic growth must be built on a strong, self-reliant and sustainable economic foundation.
“The 6% economic growth target must certainly be welcomed with optimism. We also encourage and oversee efforts to ensure that this growth is built on a foundation of sustainable development,” Eddy said in his statement on Tuesday (18/8/2026).
Eddy made the remarks while attending a series of events marking the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday (17/8).
In the momentum of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence, Eddy expressed appreciation for President Prabowo’s commitment to sustainability, including through accelerating the energy transition. He believes efforts to strengthen energy security can be pursued simultaneously with the transition towards clean energy.
“This is an important effort that can produce dual outputs, namely energy security as well as clean and sustainable energy,” he said.
According to him, the energy transition must be positioned as part of the national economic growth strategy. The development of renewable energy is seen as capable of opening new investment opportunities, creating jobs, strengthening national industry, while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
“The energy transition is part of the economic strategy. When we build solar, geothermal, hydro, bioenergy, electricity grids and the electric vehicle ecosystem, we are not only reducing emissions but also creating investment, jobs and new industries. This is what we must push so that the energy transition becomes an engine of economic growth,” he said.
The PAN deputy chairman added that energy security is also one of the important factors in achieving the 6% economic growth target. High economic growth will increase energy demand, so Indonesia needs to ensure sufficient, affordable, reliable and increasingly clean energy availability.
“A prerequisite for achieving the economic growth target is sufficient energy availability. Therefore, we must strengthen energy security by accelerating diversification towards renewable energy sources that we possess ourselves,” he continued.
Eddy expressed hope that the policy direction of the 2027 State Budget can provide strong support for this agenda. This support includes strengthening renewable energy investment, developing electricity infrastructure, developing green industry, improving energy efficiency, and providing greater room for innovation and private investment.
“Indonesia has great capital to make the energy transition a new source of growth. We have sun, geothermal, water, biomass and various other renewable energy sources. The challenge now is how we transform these resources into national economic and industrial strength,” Eddy said.
He stressed that the spirit of independence at the age of 81 must be translated into efforts to strengthen Indonesia’s economic and energy self-reliance.
“An independent Indonesia is an Indonesia that is able to determine its own economic future, including in determining the energy sources that underpin its economic growth. Therefore, the 6% growth target must be achieved with a greener economy, more self-reliant energy and sustainable development,” he asserted.
