Support for students

From Merdeka

Merdeka wrote on Nov. 9 that "students, too, are ready to engage themselves in a jihad". We must acknowledge the big role the students played in bringing down the New Order regime. Certainly with the help of the media.

It is regrettable that in this reform era there are sides which are suspicious, saying that student movements have "communist" leanings. This is one of the ploys in the spirit of the former regime to divide the forces of the reformists toward the Special Session of the People's Consultative Assembly.

I greatly respect, and I feel deeply touched by the struggle of the students, who are consistent and courageous in voicing the aspirations of Indonesia's millions of people, especially now that they have declared themselves ready for jihad.

The struggle of the students toward the Special Session, coinciding with National Heroes' Day, constitutes the right momentum. Therefore, the students must cooperate with all sides to continue their fight for reform.

As a common man, I can only help with my prayers. May God the Almighty bless and protect the struggle of the true fighters of reform.
