Support for SPI
From Warta Kota
I support the plan of the Indonesian Association of Attorneys (SPI) to file a class action against the Jakarta Council. This is a necessary step to take as it will serve as a lesson to the Councilors for ignoring the aspirations of the people they are supposed to represent.
Today only the press can exercise control over the performance of the regional legislative assembly. The central governing boards of political parties, which should exercise control over the performance of their members in the regional legislative assembly, have not done anything.
Political parties only collect money for the general election and for the welfare of their own activists. They never respond to popular aspirations of the people in the period between general elections.
As a good citizen, I'm pleased to hear of the initiative taken by SPI for a class action against the legislative assembly in Jakarta. In this way they have shown a timely response to the disappointment of the community over their "missing" representatives.
To gain more support from the community, it is necessary for SPI to collect the signatures of the residents. I believe many will give their support to this idea.
