Statements by President Abdurrahman Wahid published in various
print media have confused me. Many of his statements are not in
compliance with the 1945 Constitution and the state ideology of
Pancasila. There is an impression that his attitude reflects a
lack of concern and he acts according to his own vision.

What is most appalling is the statement made by National
Awakening Party (PKB) chairman Matori Abdul Djalil to the effect
that the President, the military and the United States will
support his party's bid to remain in power for 10 years.

As a religious person, I would like to remind him that it is
not wise to show a challenging attitude or to be arrogant.
Remember, if you are not concerned with the plight of the people,
you will meet with the same fate of former presidents Sukarno and
Soeharto.

Before it is too late, we should hold a national
reconciliation in the interests of the nation and the republic.
