Support for Palestine sought
The Congress of Indonesian Muslims in Jakarta on Wednesday issued
a recommendation for the Asian-African Summit to support the
establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The Congress argued that the United States had failed to act
as a campaigner for democracy as it "even allows Israel to launch
war against the Palestine."
"In the name of Muslim solidarity, we must support Palestine
and fight those who violate Muslims' rights," Indonesian Ulemas
Council (MUI) secretary general Din Syamsuddin said.
The Congress was attended by thousands of Indonesian Muslims
and dozens of foreign observers.-- JP
