Support for Basic Needs of NTT Earthquake Victims
In the midst of the mourning following the earthquake that shook East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), residents’ needs do not stop at evacuation and rescue. When homes are damaged, community activities halt, and some residents must endure displacement camps, seemingly simple needs such as clean water, food, medicine, and health services become profoundly significant.
The 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck the NTT region on Saturday (15/8/2026) caused significant damage in several areas of Flores. Reports indicate that Nagekeo Regency, Sikka, and surrounding areas were among the hardest hit. Aid access faced severe challenges as a number of roads were blocked by landslides and communication networks were disrupted.
Amid these emergency conditions, Pertamina moved swiftly through humanitarian support focused on the basic needs of the community. As of 18 August 2026, Pertamina had distributed aid worth Rp415 million reaching more than 3,900 beneficiaries. The assistance includes medicines, staple foods, ready-to-eat meals, shelter supplies, communal kitchens, clean water, and energy supplies.
As the aid coordination centre, a Pertamina Peduli post was established at the Reo Fuel Terminal. Additionally, a medical post was set up at SMP 1 Reo in Manggarai Regency, staffed by a team of doctors and paramedics. These health services cover three main health facilities: Muhammadiyah Ende Hospital, Reo Community Health Centre, and Reo DCU.
One crucial aspect of concern is access to clean water and sanitation. Pertamina distributed a 3,100-litre water tank and one portable toilet to evacuation points. In disaster situations, the availability of sanitation facilities is vital to prevent the outbreak of disease in displacement camps.
Pertamina’s Vice President of Corporate Communication, Muhammad Baron, affirmed that rapid response to residents’ needs is the company’s top priority. He explained that the restoration of energy facilities and services is being carried out in stages while prioritising safety.
“Through Pertamina Peduli, assistance for basic needs, health, hygiene, sanitation, and emergency energy is being distributed and will continue to be adjusted to the actual needs on the ground,” said Baron.
