Amid global competition increasingly shaped by technology and artificial intelligence (AI), a nation’s advantage no longer rests solely on its natural resource wealth, but on the quality of its human resources capable of mastering knowledge, creating innovation, and generating multiplied economic added value.

In this context, investment in human resources is the primary strategy to ensure Indonesia can compete and escape the middle-income trap on the path towards the Golden Indonesia vision.

Indonesia has a significant opportunity through its demographic bonus, projected to last until 2045. However, this potential will only become an advantage if accompanied by the emergence of a generation that is adaptive, has strong character, and is able to deliver breakthroughs amid increasingly rapid change.

“Without sustainable programmes to strengthen the quality of human resources, the demographic bonus could potentially become a burden rather than a competitive advantage,” he said.

Universities are the starting point for building the leadership capacity of the younger generation. He emphasised three key values that young people need to possess: the ability to offer new perspectives (distinctive), readiness to keep learning and adapting (adaptive), and awareness of the importance of collaboration (inclusive).

“These values serve as the foundation for remaining relevant amid rapid change,” he said.

He outlined three principles of belief, the “Power of Belief,” that young people can use in their personal development journey.

The Power of Belief is the conviction to keep moving forward even when results are not yet visible. The Power of Commitment is consistency in upholding values and integrity. Finally, the Power of Legacy is the belief that success is not measured by the position one attains, but by the ideas, works, and positive impact that benefit the next generation.

“These three principles form the foundation for the emergence of leadership capable of withstanding change while also creating change for Indonesia,” he explained.

Furthermore, he stressed the importance for young people to implement knowledge so that it does not stop in the classroom or laboratory, but develops into innovation, technology, and solutions that provide real benefits for industry and society.

“When science, technology, and collaboration meet in a single ecosystem, that is where innovation is born, capable of transforming resources into added value and elevating Indonesia to the next level,” he said.

In line with this, MIND ID positions talent development as a long-term strategic investment programme that serves as the foundation for the transformation of the national mining industry. Development programmes are carried out through competency strengthening, research, and collaboration with various stakeholders, as well as the initiation of innovation competition programmes such as BigMIND to encourage the emergence of a generation of innovators in the mining industry sector.

Indonesia’s future is determined by its ability to build superior talent as well as an ecosystem that enables that talent to create impact.

“MIND ID consistently encourages downstreaming as an effort to create added value, not only for mineral resources but also for the development of its human resources, so as to support the realisation of the Golden Indonesia vision in the future,” he concluded.
