Sunyaragi Cave Attracts International Tourists During Chinese New Year Holiday
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CIREBON – The management of the Sunyaragi Cave Water Park (BPTAGS) in Cirebon has recorded a decrease in the number of visitors at the beginning of Ramadan 1447 Hijri compared to normal days. However, the number of visitors at the beginning of this year’s Ramadan is still considered better than the same period last year.
The Head of Public Relations and Promotion at BPTAGS, Eko Ardi Nugraha, explained that the management had temporarily closed the Sunyaragi Cave on 19-20 February 2026. This was done as a sign of respect for Muslims who are fasting.
“When it reopened, the number of visitors was around 50 people, including a group that arrived by bus to visit the Sunyaragi Cave,” said Eko on Tuesday (24/2/2026).
According to Eko, the continued flow of tourists at the beginning of Ramadan is partly due to the proximity of the Chinese New Year holiday to the start of the fasting month. This situation has been taken advantage of by some tourists to visit the historical tourist attraction located in the Jalan Brigjen Darsono By Pass area, Cirebon City.
“On average, the visitors come from outside the city. There are also foreign tourists, such as from Australia, Japan, and Singapore, who are enjoying the Chinese New Year holiday,” he added.
However, Eko said that the activity of “ngabuburit” or waiting for the time to break the fast in the Sunyaragi Cave area has not been significantly noticeable at the beginning of this year’s Ramadan. “The number of visitors in the afternoon has not been very high. At most, there are only one or two people,” he said.
During Ramadan, the management also adjusts the operating hours of the Sunyaragi Cave tourist attraction. The Sunyaragi Cave opens at 10:00 AM and closes earlier, at 4:00 PM.
Meanwhile, the entrance ticket prices during Ramadan remain unchanged. General visitors are charged Rp15,000, while students are charged Rp10,000.
“The ticket prices are still the same as on normal days,” Eko concluded.
