Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Transportation (Wamenhub) Suntana stated that Estonia’s leadership in digital management opens up new potential for cooperation with Indonesia, which is building a digital ecosystem in the maritime sector.

Suntana conveyed that with the advancement of the times, Indonesia increasingly recognises the importance of sustainable integration and efficiency in efforts to advance the national economy and industry.

“This creates meaningful opportunities for practical and mutually beneficial collaboration with Estonia,” said Suntana at the Estonia Maritime Industry Business Mission to Indonesia forum in Jakarta on Tuesday.

As an archipelagic country, Suntana continued, Indonesia is striving to improve the performance and sustainability of its maritime ecosystem on one hand, such as by launching shipping decarbonisation policies, environmentally friendly fuels, and overall energy efficiency in the sector.

On the other hand, Indonesia continues to expand digitalisation in shipping operations through the implementation of the maritime single window system and ship management systems that facilitate arrival and departure procedures, thereby increasing efficiency in the shipping ecosystem.

He is optimistic that strengthening collaboration between Indonesia and Estonia will not only benefit both countries but also have a positive impact on development at the regional and global levels.

Moreover, Indonesia is optimising maritime collaboration with Estonia through steps that reflect shared priorities.

“The Indonesian government is also committed to developing a conducive business environment and partnerships that continue to bring positive value in the long term,” Suntana stated.

On the same occasion, Estonia’s Minister of Infrastructure Kuldar Leis said that his side sees strong potential for collaboration with Indonesia in the sector, given that both countries position the sea as one of the flagship sectors of the national economy.

“Indonesia, as one of the world’s largest maritime countries, and Estonia, as a pioneer in the digital sector, can complement each other in meaningful ways,” said Leis.
