Sunken Japanese ship spotted
BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: Divers have spotted an old Japanese
ship during a survey of a location for an underwater photography
contest in the Sunda Straits south of Sumatra, Antara reported.
"The ship, which is dozens of meters in length, could have
sunk decades ago," a senior diver of the Corono Diving Club,
Sinek Kurniawan, said here on Wednesday.
Kurniawan said the club was told a Japanese ship sank near
Sebuku island in the Sunda Straits many years ago.
Divers from the club took parts of the ship, which were
covered with underwater life.
Another diver, Anshori Djausal, said his club wanted to
promote underwater panorama during the photography contest, which
will be held from Aug. 27 to Aug. 29 as part of the 9th Krakatau
Festival.
The annual festival will be participated by foreign and
domestic divers. (edt)
